The outcomes of the broad teaching of History across the school is seen in the children’s topic books, their literacy books and also through various displays that are put up showcasing their work throughout the year.
This shows evidence of a broad and balanced History curriculum and allows us to show the children’s development of their geographical skills and knowledge. Towards the end of Key Stage One, the children start to complete a learning review to record what they have learned at the end of each topic. History assessment is ongoing, to inform teachers with their planning, lesson activities and differentiation. Summative assessment is completed at the end of each term. History teaching is also monitored regularly using a variety of strategies, such as book trawls (where exemplar evidence is also collected), lesson observations, feedback and by conducting pupil interviews.
We aim for all Children to achieve age related expectations in History at the end of the Key Stage and that they will have a good understanding of local history and key world historical events.
