The National Curriculum is the core of our school science curriculum but we have built upon this to ensure that it meets the needs of our children. We have chosen not to follow a commercial scheme for science, as we are unaware of any that fit the context of our Infant school and Nursery with our very young children.
Our learning model is child-centred, following on from our excellent Early Years practice. It is based upon a core of skills and knowledge on which we sit specific topics, endeavouring to match these to the interests of the children where possible. Our learning model always starts with the prior knowledge of the children and have a clearly defined end point, at the end of the lesson or topic. We want children to acquire skills and knowledge in a logical sequence so that they become embedded in long term memory and can be used across the wider curriculum.
